Lanvin’s New Bad Boys Rule in Designer Clothing

If any collection best captured the current state of play in men’s fashion it was Lanvin, whose exhilarating show Sunday morning, June 28, in Paris was a real double whammy: The coolest collection of designer clothes in the most assuredly staged show.

Where previously Lanvin was all about the sensitive man, poetic figures whose clothes all looked designed for dinner parties where only Bordeaux vintages are served, for Spring 2010 Lanvin’s man's first destination will be a nightclub.

designer clothes || LanvinThat much was clear from the pre-show ambience in the Salle Wagram - a Berlin techno track and bordello red lighting, where the start of the show was heralded by the volume brusquely turned way up.

Lanvin, the house that spawned the current obsession with wearing bowties - everyone from Lower East Side hipsters to Milanese dandies wear dickie bows these days – has suddenly walked away from the phenomena. They were absent from this show.

designer clothing || Lanvin“It’s our anti-uniform collection and all about why not? Why not a nightclub? Why not iced coffee for breakfast," said Lanvin’s creative director Alber Elbaz with a laugh, who took his bow, as is customary, with menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver.

Though not many men can afford Lanvin’s pricey menswear, its influence has been huge – just take a look this spring in the windows of Zara, the giant Spanish fashion retailer, crammed, as they are, with the muted hues, frayed hems and sensitive fabrics the Paris house made its signature.

They should get ready to re-do the shop front for Lanvin’s after midnight collection emphasis on faille rocker dandy redingotes and a great new trouser cut – in taupe, ivy and battered burgundy – cut forgivingly down the thigh and tapered at the ankle. But the best idea was a series of pants and suits in cool tartan or club tie stripe fabrics which will be de rigueur for all hipsters next Easter.

Added to the mix were some great footwear, either Hobbit-like chunky brogues or fabric strap sandals, worn at the strong ecru colored finale where calf leather bomber jackets, worn inside pants, Querelle style singlets and off-the-shoulder trenches starred.

Lantern Skirt: Trend Alert for Designer Clothes

Lantern skirts were a hit on the spring/summer catwalks and now we're catching on to this fab new shape in terms of designer clothing.

The lantern cut is a little like the tulip skirts that were so big last season, only shorter and with a bit more volume.

Graphic prints are a great way to brighten up your summer wardrobe and this funky lantern skirt from has a retro 80s feel.

The lantern shape does tend to add a little more volume to the hips- which isn't great for curvy girls. A colour black will detract away from the hips and draw the eye down to gorgeous tanned holiday legs with your favorite designer clothes.

White lantern skirt is an essential for the holiday suitcase. It's casual enough for a daytime look but dress it up with some heels and you'll be heating up the bars too.

Through the Wind and Rain in Burberry Designer Clothes

The most outstanding designer clothing collection seen Saturday, June 20, the opening day of the Italian menswear season, was Burberry, whose stroll through the wind and rain was the show that most connected to the current economic zeitgeist.

designer clothes

While the clothes were very much in step with the gentleman explorer aesthetic of Burberry’s creative director Christopher Bailey, the Spring 2010 collection nonetheless reflected the current global mood of wariness, dressing elegantly but never loudly and with an overriding sense of humility.

designer clothingNo designer anywhere, given the lack of action at cash registers, is trying to reinvent the wheel, but Bailey, to his credit, at least addressed the global mood with a show that began in with a downbeat opening and then morphed into a celebratory high-end nomad moment.

“I wanted to begin in the rain and end in the sun, a typical English day,” Bailey said backstage.

His opening was all about new takes on Burberry’s symbolic garment, the trench, showing new shower-proof waxed cottons and linens that had distinction but were never loud. He also revamped the classic padded country jacket with a shiny finish and a nightclub attitude.

Christopher also dipped into one major trend seen the last time the economy was in a tailspin, the bondage shirt, sending out several tops with multiple surgical straps around the torso that were early eighties and edgy.

burberry

But his best looks were bulky double-breasted dusters in technical finishes or redingotes in hefty linens that responded to men’s yearning for a look that is both protective and yet posh.

A series of polished, yet also worn, Chelsea boots and some masculine high-tech yachting parkas added to the air of rugged cool.

Jason Wu Resort 2010: Convertible Chic

In the cheerful spirit of Resort 2010, Jason Wu was all smiles on Thursday, June 4, as he showed his collection in a garden-spot in New York, where beams of natural sunlight that crept in through the clouds only further accented his 'highlight' pieces. Through designer clothes.

jason wu

In a collection that honed in on a few electric colors, Wu let us taste the rainbow with fan-pleated skirts in both bright red and green, and saved the 'oldie but goodie' highlighter-yellow for the end with a peplum shiftdress that was worth the wait. Pairing these brights with muted shades of grey, Wu played with contrary forces, mixing things up to attain that contemporary look. As he explained, "I love that we paired a jersey T-shirt and a luxurious draped skirt with a diamond bracelet."

designer clothes

Folds were plentiful, as envelope sleeves gave dimension up top, drawing the eye to a modestly sexy neckline, in tandem as pleats and drape skirts gave structure from below the ever-present belt. Blurring the lines between day and evening wear, these electric and shapely pieces can take any woman, at anytime to anywhere. "This is how the modern girl wears it. There's no definition. It's about really convertible clothes," said Wu after the show.

designer clothing
Wu drew inspirations for the season from Iris Apfel, an eccentrically fashionable textile expert renowned for mixing colors and prints, as well as high and low fashion. Her exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2006 resonated with Wu, who recalled that, "She was so full of color and texture and with her sense of style, I imagined what a Jason Wu girl would do when she raids Iris Apfel's closet."

A dove feather-embroidered tulle shell, as well as a red and pink petaled coat, authentically reminiscent of real flower petals, seemed to really channel in the Iris Apfel flair that Wu was aiming for. His 'Jason Wu girl' is about being "luxurious, chic and truly modern", and no matter what convertible she's riding in to whatever destination, Resort 2010 will be just that.

Hair Accessories - Headbands and how to wear them with your Designer Clothing

Headbands can be a fun way to pep up your outfit - not just since Blair Waldorf is rocking them on Gossip Girl. In fact, in the show, headbands kind of stand for a conservative, old fashioned style. The new headband trend though intends to loosen up your style and add something girlie to it.

polo ralph lauren

I think a headband - be it a feather, crochet, satin or plastic headband - is best worn with a simple outfit. Denim pants or a skirt and a simple white or black fitted shirt with natural make-up seem to be the best fit.

Even though I haven’t “re-embraced” this long forgotten ’80s accessory I am willing to experiment with it now - especially since the price of a headband is only a fraction of the price of a new top - at the same time though it can really freshen up your look.

When wearing a headband most hair styles will work. Wearing your hair short or long, up or down, there are no rules and a headband will work. Skipping your earrings though is probably a good idea - don’t distract from your headband and “overload” yourself.

I personally don’t think the color or fabric of your headband has to match the rest of your clothes. Wild, audacious, unexpected - that’s the combination you are going for. Remember, you don’t want to look boring. After all, the reason for wearing a headband is to actually stand out and make a little fashion statement.

Chinos: Perfect Alternative in your Designer Clothing

The most laid back style of the trouser family, Chinos are the perfect alternative to jeans and harem pants this season and set to be a huge trend for designer clothes fashion. Designer like Polo Ralph Lauren are have Spring/Summer collection for this trend which features in a variety of colors such as pink and yellow.

polo ralph lauren

But for those of us that are not feeling that brave you can still add a touch of the trend to your outfit without making a big fashion faux pas. One thing that is great about them though, is that they fill will a hole in your entire wardrobes, providing an alternative to jeans and trousers. When jeans are too scruffy and a pair of black skinny trousers are too formal, chinos will prove to be your saviour. That is why most fashionistas who are already wearing harems and pegs have already switched onto the trend and have added them to their list.

Everyone's wearing a chinos, so what are you waiting for? Try this trend and see the difference.

Prairie Trend: Modern and Vintage Designer Clothes

The prairie trend is one of the trend in today's designer clothing fashion. It is sweet, simple-charming silhouettes, frilled camisoles, ruffled bib-front dresses, swishy, bustled skirts and done up in both retro floral prints and obviously modern, haute-glittery textures. It is now showcased by designer such as Marc Jacobs and Polo Ralph Lauren.

polo ralph lauren
This trend reflect a time when even the homespun types so wearing it looks disturbingly delusional. Exotic designs, Asian-inspired patterns and fabric, heavy painted wood bangles, tribal-looking bib necklaces embellished with raw stones felt defiantly stylish and daring against all the charming, innocent frills is the key to have a modern look of this trend.

To pull off this trend you can mix authentically rough-hewn vintage camisoles and prairie skirts with a modern, sparkly Lurex scarf and neon t-shirt. For night, up the glam factor through accessories: a glitzy bag, sexy heels, a great little jacket, and you’re good to go. Another trick is to wear a modern fitted plaid shirt and full skirt that shows legs. Have fun with playful accessories inspired by your little style house on the prairie.

Keep in mind that being simple with this trend is the big factor, so don't over do it.
